Fotos do Davis no fim de semana

Olá amigos e amigas do Davis! Foi o primeiro fim de semana do Davis em casa depois da cirurgia. Ele está na sala e para impedir que saia dali colocamos cadeiras. O chão da casa é duro e escorregadio, ali está seguro. Sai três vezes por dia para pequenos passeios. Limpamos a costura e colocamos gelo no pescoço depois das saídas. Ainda está fraco e com os medicamentos que toma recusa mover-se pelo que tem de ser carregado ao colo!São 23 kg de cão! À noite, à hora do jantar, foi ter connosco à cozinha para pedir mais comida - empurrou a cadeira e saíu do parque improvisado!Tem muito apetite mas por vezes temos de lhe dar água à mão, tem sede mas não bebe da tigela. Isto já aconteceu com a anterior operação ao baço. Passa a maior parte do tempo a dormir. Hoje fomos tirar os pontos - a costura está óptima.

Hello Davis's friends! It was Davis's first weekend home after surgery. He's in the sitting room and to prevent exit we put chairs around the carpet. The floor of the house is hard and slippery, in this park he is safe.We take him to the street three times a day for short walks. We clean the seam and put ice on the neck when we return. He is still weak and refuses to walk so it must be loaded to the neck! He's 23 kg dog! At dinner time, Davis joined us in the kitchen to ask for more food - he pushed the chair and came out of the improvised park!He has much appetite but sometimes we must give him water by hand. He is thirsty but does not want to drink from the bowl. This has happened with the previous operation to the spleen. Davis spends much sleeping. The stitching is excellent. Today we went to the vet to remove the clips.

Depois da operação: neste raio x vemos as placas aplicadas na coluna depois de terem cortado o bico. As placas servem para manter a coluna estabilizada.

O Davis já está em casa!

Oito dias depois da cirurgia, o Davis regressou a casa, hoje de manhã!!! Deu um pequeno passeio em frente à Clinicão e depois da viagem, da medicação e da comida, prepara-se para uma boa soneca! Apesar do Davis estar muito bem, precisa ainda de cuidados diários. Agradecemos a todos os que têm contribuído para  a recuperação do nosso cão!Continuaremos a dar notícias - ainda há muito para fazer!

Eight days after surgery, Davis returned home this morning! He had a short walk across the Clinicão. After the car trip, he was home. He took his medication and food, and now he's preparing for a good nap! Despite Davis's well being, he still needs daily care. Thanks to all who have contributed to the recovery of our dog! Will continue to give you news - there is still much to do!

Estas fotografias são do dia de ontem. O Davis continua a fazer progressos. Nestas fotos podem ver a zona do pescoço sem pelo! O Davis ainda não consegue caminhar sem caír mas já atravessou a rua para ir fazer xi-xi! À tarde estava mais tranquilo, deixou fazer tudo. Mas quando viemos embora começou novamente a ladrar imenso. Pensamos que dentro de pouco tempo ele pode vir para casa. Não vai poder saltar ou correr, tem de descansar muito. Dez dias depois da cirurgia vai ter de fazer fisioterapia. Infelizmente agora o elevador da casa estragou-se e subir e descer com ele é impossível. Esperamos que venham reparar depressa pois o nosso Davis está quase a regressar ao lar!

These photos are from yesterday. Davis condition continues to improve. In these photos you can see the area without fur around the neck! Davis still can not walk without falling here and there but he was able to cross the street to go to the grass in front and pee! In the afternoon he was quieter, he let us clean and do him everything. But when we left he began to bark a lot as usual. We think that within a short time he can come home. It will not be able to jump or run, he must get plenty of rest. Ten days after surgery Davis will have to make fisiotherapy. Unfortunately now the lift of the house is broken and up and down the stairs with him is impossible. We hope it will be fixed quickly because our Davis is about to return home!

O Davis dois dias após a cirurgia

Olá amigos e amigas do Davis! Hoje de manhã fomos à Clínica ajudar o Davis na sua recuperação. Fez uma grande festa quando nos viu e depois de sair da jaula queria estar de pé!! Hoje já tem mais força na pata da frente, já procura apoiar-se nela. As patas de trás estão bem, ele levanta-se sem problemas. Tem o pelo aparado à volta do pescoço e debaixo dele está a costura pois foi por lá que alcançaram a coluna.
Nestas fotos estamos a colocar gelo no pescoço e a dar-lhe os comprimidos na ração. Ele tinha sede e fome, e estava muito bravo, cheio de energia!! Depois de resmungar acabou por ficar cansado! A veterinária mediu a temperatura e arranjou o colar para se manter seco e não o magoar na pele em volta do pescoço. Ontem o Davis destruíu um colar, roendo-o à volta, e este já tinha um bocado roído também!! As horas na jaula devem demorar a passar e ele arranjou um passatempo! Na despedida estava zangado por ficar de novo na jaula, ladrou muito. Logo ao final da tarde voltamos lá. Para já está tudo a decorrer conforme esperado. Estamos contentes e mais tranquilos. A equipa da Clinicão tem sido maravilhosa com o nosso cãozinho e o Davis até já gosta mais das veterinárias!

Hello to all Davis's friends! This morning we went to the Clinic to help Davis in his recovery. He was very happy when he saw us and then wanted to get out of the cage! Then he jsut wanted to stand on his paws! Today the front paw has more strength already. The hind legs are fine, he stands up nicely. Davis fur was trimmed around the neck. Under the neck there's a seam - the veterinary reached the spine from under the neck.
In these pictures we are putting ice on Davis's neck and giving him the pills. He was thirsty and hungry!! And was very angry too, full of energy! After grumbling and barking a lot eventually he got tired! The vet measured the temperature and arranged the collar to keep Davis dry and so he could not hurt the skin around the neck. Yesterday Davis destroyed the collar, chewing it around, and this one has already a bit eaten too! It seems Davis found a hobby! When we left he was angry about getting back into the cage, he barked a lot. Soon in the evening we will be back there. For now everything is going as expected. We are happy and more relaxed. The team from Clinicão has been wonderful with our dog!

O Davis à chegada à clínica!

Estas fotografias foram feitas de tarde, às 3 horas, quando fomos levar o Davis ao hospital veterinário. Ele tinha passado uma noite agitada, ninguém dormiu, de hora a hora ele chamava, raspando na porta! Até parecia que sabia que ia ser operado e que estava nervoso, sem conseguir dormir! Pesamos o Davis e tiraram sangue para análises. Mas depois receberam um telefonema do neurocirugião que estava atrasado a resolver uma urgência canina! Assim, optámos por trazer o Davis para casa e ficámos a aguardar novo telefonema da Clinicão. Às 6 horas levámos o Davis, assistimos à anestesia, que decorreu tranquilamente, sem rosnadelas e agitação!! E depois ficámos à espera do novo telefonema que só chegou por volta das 22.30horas. A cirurgia decorreu conforme a previsão dos veterinários, sem surpresas. Temos de aguardar 24 horas para saber como está o Davis. Por agora ele está a dormir profundamente!

These photographs were taken in the afternoon, at 3 o'clock, when we took Davis to the veterinary hospital. He had spent a restless night, nobody slept in the house, every hour he called, scraping at the door! It almost seemed that he knew he would be operated and that he was nervous, unable to sleep! After arrival at Clinicão we weigh Davis and the lady veterinary took blood from him for analysis. But after receiving a call from the neurosurgeon who was late dealing with another dog patient we decided to bring Davis home again. We then waited for another call from Clinicão. At 6 o'clock we took Davis, we stayed there for the anesthesia process, which took place peacefully, without the usual Davis growls!! Then we came home and we waited for another phonecal - it was night already, 22.30 h, when the phone rang.The surgery took place according to the prediction of veterinarians, no surprises. We have to wait at least 24 hours to learn how Davis really  is. For now he is asleep!

A cirurgia do Davis é amanhã!

Acabámos de receber um telefonema da Clinicão. A segunda placa para a coluna do Davis acabou de chegar e o neurocirurgião vai operar o Davis amanhã ao final da tarde. Vamos levá-lo à Clinicão às três horas!

Já faltou mais para a cirurgia!

Eis uma fotografia do Davis, tirada há minutos. Está a dormir depois de ter tomado banho e secado ao sol. Esta semana foi acidentada pois teve diarreia. Ficou umas horas internado, a soro, no veterinário! Mas hoje já está recuperado.
O novo medicamento para as dores, quase milagroso, fez-lhe muito bem mas a dosagem está a baixar no organismo, estamos a entrar na fase descendente até à nova toma pelo que, pela manhã, o coxear voltou. No consultório vimos que aumentou de peso, é bom.
Conversamos esta semana com o veterinário neurocirurgião. Ele já examinou o Davis e explicou a delicadeza da intervenção cirúrgica, a remoção da vértebra "que tem uma espécie de bico", de acordo com o TAC, e a estabilização da coluna com as placas. Uma das placas já chegou, falta a outra. São importadas e houve problemas de ordem burocrática ao nível das empresas fornecedoras ou distribuidoras, que não adianta explicar, por isso tanta demora. Os nossos veterinários nada podem fazer, estamos todos aborrecidos com isto. Mas a chegada da 2ª placa parece estar por dias e se o Davis estiver estável será então operado. Here's Davis's photograph, taken a few minutes ago. He's asleep after having bath and dried in the sun. This week was rough because he had diarrhea. He was hospitalized a few hours at the vet! But today he is recovered.
The new medicine for pain, almost miraculous, made ​​him very well but the dosage is now lower in the body, we are entering the downswing to the next dosage, so in the morning the limping is back. At the vet we found that avis increased weight, that is good.
This week we talked with the vet neurosurgeon. He has examined Davis and explained the delicacy of the surgery, the removal of the vertebra that "has a sort of beak," according to the TAC, and spine stabilization with plates. One of the plates has arrived, the other i still missing. They are imported and there were problems of bureaucratic kind between order suppliers or distributors, which does not help explain and that's why so much delay. Our veterinarians can do nothing, we are all upset about this. But the arrival of the 2nd card seems to be for days and if Davis remains stable he will then be operated. We thank you for all the interest and affection shown to our dog. Please continue to spread the story of Davis! Thank you!

Ontem levámos o Davis ao veterinário para fazer exames diversos e saber se podemos continuar a esperar pelas placas ou se tínhamos de fazer a operação o mais depressa possível. Os testes indicam que podemos ainda esperar pelas placas escolhidas pelo neurocirurgião. O Davis continua a ser medicado para as dores causadas pela lesão na medula e para suportar os vómitos causados pela irritação do estômago. Os veterinários receitaram um novo analgésico, vamos ver que tal o Davis se dá com ele. Continua com alguns problemas de pele e a infeção nos olhos mas o estado geral é estável. Obrigada a todos os que se têm interessado pelo nosso cão!

Yesterday we took Davis to the vet for a check so we can know whether we can continue to wait for the metal plates or if we had to do the surgery as soon as possible. The tests indicate that we can still wait for a while for the plates chosen by the neurosurgeon. Davis continues to be medicated for pain caused by spinal cord injuries and to support vomiting caused by irritation of the stomach. Veterinarians prescribed a new painkiller, let's see how Davis reacts. Still having some skin problems and infection in the eye but the general condition is stable.
